Diabetes

Diabetes has been considered as the common disease in United State. Nearly 21 millions people are having diabetes. About 15 millions have diagnosed diabetes and 6 millions are not aware that they have diabetes.

As diabetes prevalence is still increasing, it has raised the attention to take necessary precautious steps to control and eradicate the disease completely.

The American Diabetes Association recommends Fasting Plasma Glucose Test (FPG) or Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) to test and determine if a person has diabetes. This is testing a person’s fasting blood glucose level. If it is higher than 126 mg/dl, it means he/she has diabetes.

There are few types of diabetes:
Type 1 diabetes
- It is result of a body’s failure to produce insulin. Estimated 5%-10% of people classified in category in America.

Type 2 diabetes
- It is result from insulin resistance and combined with relative insulin deficiency.

Gestational diabetes
- This is diabetes that affected pregnant women. Estimated 135,000 of pregnant women diagnosed Gestational diabetes every year.

Prediabetes
This is condition when one person’s blood glucose levels are higher than normal but not high enough to classified as diabetes.

Diabetes can leads to many complications i.e. blindness, gangrene, end-stage renal disease and lower limb amputation. If the blood sugar level is constantly high, it will also leads to kidney failure or Neuropathy or cardiovascular problems. Sometimes, it will also lead to heart disease and stroke.

Although Diabetes cannot be cure completely, but it can be manage and control. Control on diet, exercise and medication and the levels of blood glucose, blood pressure, and blood lipids and receiving other preventive care practices in a timely manner is essential. This is workable for people who have type 2 diabetes. For type 1 diabetes, it must have Insulin delivered by injection
